Ian is a trial lawyer. He is Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Personal Injury Trial Law. This means he has the expertise and trial experience in this area of law. The process to become a board certified lawyer is thorough and depends on the recommendations of peers in the legal community. Ian is also a member of the invitation-only American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). This is an organization for trial lawyers requiring the highest professional and ethical standards for admission as well as the required trial experience. Ian has also been recognized as a Texas Super Lawyer- Rising Star by his peers, an “America’s Top 100 Civil Defense Litigator”, and a Top Lawyer in Personal Injury Law by Houstonia Magazine. These awards and distinctions are only bestowed on those attorneys who earn both results and the confidence of their peers.
Prior to founding Hernandez Sunosky LLP, Ian spent years defending companies, both large and small, and individuals in civil lawsuits brought by those injured through negligence. This experience gave Ian a firsthand look into how insurance companies defend lawsuits, evaluate claims and ultimately their strategies for helping their bottom line. Ian has tried several cases to verdict with great results. He knows what the insurance companies look for and what they don’t look for when it comes to settling claims.
When you or a family member is injured by the negligence of someone else it’s a difficult and stressful time. Ian understands and has been through many similar hardships. He is the son of an immigrant and grew up in a lower income area of Houston. His father, who is from Barranquilla, Colombia, worked multiple jobs to make sure Ian not only was provided for but learned the value of a strong work ethic. Ian’s mother was a first-generation Mexican-American who worked as an office assistant and laid the foundation of education and hard work. It never came easy, but the groundwork was established. Ian graduated at the top of his class from Willowridge High School in Fort Bend County and went on to obtain his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Notre Dame. After taking some time to perform community service work in Houston’s East End, Ian enrolled at South Texas College of Law Houston and earned his law degree. Ian’s childhood and young adulthood instilled in him tenacity, compassion, and the desire to help. These tenets are vital and identify the Hernandez Sunosky, LLP firm.
Ian is also bilingual and can assist clients in Spanish.
Outside of the office, Ian enjoys watching Notre Dame Football, cheering on his Houston Sports teams, listening to and performing music, and he also referees youth soccer matches.
